Medically known as erectile dysfunction (ED), impotence is a common problem in many men aged 40 and above. This is a condition marked by erection difficulties leading to an inability to have sexual intercourse. In severe cases of ED, getting an erection at the time of sex becomes problematic.

According to a study published in the Journal of Urology, men in their 60s may experience a fourfold risk of impotence compared to those in their 40s. Studies reveal a number of causes of impotence and stress is one of the most common risk factors. While most of it is work-related, a peculiar reason that causes stress and anxiety is man’s preoccupation with sex itself. For many men it can be stressful to think that they should be able to please their partners sexually. Besides, too much alcohol consumption is also linked with erectile dysfunction. Depression can also be another psychological cause of impotence.
